What are neoplasms?
There are a large number of benign skin tumours that are generally harmless. Nevertheless, in certain cases it may be necessary to remove them by means of dermatological surgery for reasons of personal comfort, aesthetic concerns or to prevent potential malignant degeneration.
The most common benign tumours removed include nevi (commonly known as "moles"), keratoses, cysts, lipomas and angiomas.
The surgical procedure is usually straightforward and often consists of excision followed by suturing, although occasionally a skin graft may be required.
Although the resulting scar is usually slightly longer than the removed tumour, the surgeon always strives to make it as inconspicuous as possible.
